CCEDC Business Roundtable

Post by
Laura Askins

The Carbon County Economic Development Financing Forum was held on March 22, 2022 at the Best Western Cotton Tree in Rawlins.

This business forum provided an opportunity for business and finance leaders from local communities and local government leaders to learn about different financing options for economic development projects.

Matt Ashby, Community Planner for Ayers Associates, presented an overview of state funding opportunities for local communities.  He also discussed the quarter cent tax funding option and provided examples o counties that have been successful in using this tax for funding economic development in their communities.  Federal funding opportunities were also featured along with examples of how funds have successfully helped renovate derelict properties.  A key takeaway from this example was how the investment into the community can provide a greater return with the generation of future local taxes.

Cindi Martinez, Brownfield Program Manager from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality(DEQ) presented valuable information on the Wyoming DEQ and the EPA Brownfield funding programs.

Her presentation highlighted Wyoming Brownfield examples and strategies and provided information on targeted Brownfield assessments and competitive grants.  Ms. Martinez provided great examples of how funds from this program have been used for urban renewal projects throughout Wyoming.  For more information on these programs, contact Cindy Martinez at cindi.martinez@wyo.gov.

The CCEDC would like to thank The Grindz for providing delicious treats along with the staff a tthe Best Western Cotton Tree for the use of their facility.

The next Roundtable event is being planned for sometime in July, so stay tuned!  Information will be posted on our website.
